Jesus’ instruction to “Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses” was not a call to poverty but to trust. The disciples were being sent forth with nothing so they might learn that the Lord Himself would be their provision. Sometimes the Lord asks us to lay down what we think we need, only to show us that He is enough.

The disciples left behind their purses, trusting in heavenly provision. Faith often requires this same surrender and to step forward not knowing where the path will lead, but knowing Who has called us to walk it. When we trust the Savior completely, we find that His grace carries us farther than our own preparations ever could.

Jesus told His disciples to seek “who in it is worthy.” He was teaching discernment to recognize hearts open to the gospel. As disciples today, we are called to look not for perfection but for willingness in those whose hearts are soft enough to receive truth and love.
